So you want to fly but you need more info. . .

Here you can find some answers to the most common questions we are asked.  Give us one we've never heard or forgotten and we'll add it to the list.

Why should I pick Leading Edge?

Why not?  Great instructors, great equipment, personal attention, cool location, the list goes on and on.  Truth be told, we are more like a family than anything else.  We work together all week, then we get together on the weekends or in the evenings to hang out.  It's this true friendship mentality that makes us different. We are actually fun to be around, and even more fun to learn to fly with.

Do you teach how to fly helicopters?

Everyone knows we teach fixed wing, but it's rotary that REALLY gets our blood flowing.  So yes, we definitely do helicopter flight instruction.

I have an airplane, can you store it?

Of course.  Not only that, we can prep it, fuel it, perform annuals, fix things. . . you name it.

How long does it take to get my pilot's license?

Hmm. . . private, commercial, instrument, fixed or rotary?  It all really depends on you.  You need approximately 40 for your private and 150 for commercial.  The real question is, how much time do YOU have?  Are you flying 3 times a week for an hour?  One of our guys did more than 24 hours in one week.  The quick answer is this.  If you can get behind the controls 3  - 4 times a week, you can get your private in approximately 3-4 months and your commercial around 9.  This is all dependent on you, your natural abilities, retention of information and of course our training schedule.

Think you have what it takes to be an aviator?

What does a professional helicopter pilot look like? A buttoned-down ex military man with a crew cut, starched collar with a steely gleam in his eyes? A former hippy candle maker with a bushy beard and wrinkled clothing that still smells faintly of patchouli? A 40-something former pipefitter with two kids in college and a mid-life crisis?
